Son of well-known actor chose to be a baseball player in Cuba

Santa Clara, Cuba, May 9 (Prensa Latina) The starter Xian Vega, son of a renowned actor in Cuba, said here today he opted for baseball and his greatest pride is to play with Cienfuegos in the 61st National Series.

Coming from a family of illustrious actors and film director, like his father Aaron Vega and his grandparents Daisy Granados and Pastor Vega, the ballplayer Xian confessed exclusively to Prensa Latina that at first he had a feeling for music, but it was his own father who urged him to play baseball.

He said his grandmother Daisy, star of emblematic films in Cuba, such as Memories of underdevelopment, Cecilia Valdes and Picture of Teresa, is also very happy that he is a baseball player, and although he is a native of Havana, he was welcomed at the Elephants of Cienfuegos team as a family member.

“Since I was a little boy, my father always liked baseball and instilled in me to become a baseball player, and when I was five years old he took me to a ball field and I started to like it and that’s where I’ve stayed until today,” he said in this city in central Cuba.

“At the beginning I also had a certain inclination for music, but baseball caught me completely,” said the 19-year-old boy, who is 1.88 meters tall, hits for more than 260 average, and is fascinated by the films Alice in Wonderland, The Amanda Prophecies and others directed by his late grandfather Pastor Vega.

His greatest aspiration is to represent Cuba in an international event. He confesses he still has no baseball nickname, unlike his father Aaron, whose name has been changed since he played a leading role in Cuban TV soap opera “You”.
