NATO increases military presence near Belarusian border

Minsk, May 10 (Prensa Latina) The chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Victor Gulevich, charged on Tuesday that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has increased its military presence near the country's borders, which constitutes a growing threat.

“The established grouping has more than doubled in the last six months, both in quantity and quality,” he stated.

He warned that the appearance of a cluster of cruise, sea and air missiles in the Mediterranean and Baltic seas, along with an increased air grouping in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, constitute a growing threat to Belarus.

Gulevich indicated that Minsk authorized the deployment in three tactical directions of special operations units from the Armed Forces in the south of the country, in response to Kiev’s increase in a grouping in the area with about 20,000 soldiers.
