Death toll from explosion at Saratoga hotel rises to 43

Havana, May 11 (Prensa Latina) At least 43 people died as a result of the explosion that occurred last Friday at the Saratoga hotel in Havana and 97 were injured, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) updated today.

The portfolio detailed that of the total deceased, 23 are male and 20 female, of these, four are minors, one pregnant woman and one foreigner of Spanish nationality.

Of the 97 reported injured, 38 have already been discharged, while 16 remain in six hospitals, including 12 adults and four children.

The admitted elderly people are divided into eight men and four women, four reported as critical, one serious and seven in care.

In relation to the four hospitalized infants, two critical ones are reported, one serious and one in care.

The Minsap reiterated its gratitude to all agencies, organizations and people in general, for the support of the actions carried out with the patients and their families, as well as the concern shown by those hospitalized.

The emblematic Saratoga hotel suffered last Friday around 11:00 local time, a partial collapse caused by an explosion when a tanker truck with liquefied gas served the facility.

Forces from the Ministries of Construction, Health, and the Interior, including firefighters and rescue teams, as well as authorities from the Communist Party and the Government, have been working tirelessly at the scene since then.
