According to figures provided by the Public Prosecutor´s Office at this moment in the entire country 17 women are without a known whereabouts.
In this regard, the designated Attorney General, Javier Caraballo pointed out that they are doing evrything possible to solve the cases, and pledged to hold meetings with representatives of women´s groups.
In the last days, several groups of people have denounced the missing in Panama of at least 15 women during the last year. These organizations fear that the missing women may have been murdered, kidnapped or raped.
The day before, more than a hundred women gathered in the capital´s Belisario Porras Park, a few meters from the headquarters of the Attorney General´s Office, to demand their rights.
“We shout for each disappeared, we want us alive,” read one of the many banners. “Not a single one less”, “Enough”, was read on others. Some of the demonstrators carried purple scarves and signs with slogans such as ‘we want justice, not statistics’.
