During a press conference at the Charles Chaplin Cinema, whose name pays tribute to the artistic work and exemplary life of this English humorist and director, the institutions involved announced the screening of 22 fiction films and four documentaries from 24 European Union (EU) states.
Most of the films, according to reports, are coming to the capital’s big screen thanks to the Support to EU Film Festivals project, an initiative financed by the European Commission and managed by a consortium made up of the Goethe-Institut, the French Institute and the Cineuropa promotion portal.
The agenda of the audiovisual event includes three collateral events, among them, the exhibition Restored Classics of European Cinema II, organized jointly with the Cartelon project and scheduled for next Wednesday in the lobby of the 23rd and 12th cinema.
According to Cuban film specialist Sara Vega, this exhibition includes a new series of 15 silkscreen-printed posters that reinterpret, based on the vision of young Cuban designers, audiovisual works from that region, such as the German film Metropolis, from 1927.
Another of the proposed activities is the concert Divertimentos (Enjoyment) Jazz versions of contemporary European film themes, by Emilio Martini and his trio along with guest musicians, at the theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts, on Thursday 19.
The festival incorporates, for the first time, the Film Production Course-Workshop, with the participation of three professionals: Valerio Caruso, general director of Cineuropa, Alexia Muiños, Spanish director and screenwriter, and Carlos D’Ursi, Italian producer and actor.
