In a statement, pastors and leaders of churches and Venezuelan evangelical organizations sent a message of condolences and support to the families of the victims, missing and injured people in the accident.
“Our prayers go out to the families of the victims and injured, to the firefighters and rescue teams, to the volunteers and the government so that our God may give them strength, wisdom and provide the necessary resources to help all those affected,” the evangelical forum said.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when a tanker truck laden with liquefied gas was serving the facility.
A few minutes after the explosion, which affected about five floors of the building on both sides, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel showed up at the scene, accompanied by other government officials.
The Cuban Government emphasized that the priority is to extract the people who remain under the rubble, as well as to look after the victims, their families and homes affected by the incident.
According to official figures, the accident has killed 43 people and injured 100, in addition to causing extensive material damage to the hotel and the surrounding buildings.
