Boric met with Vicente at La Moneda Palace (the seat of the executive branch), whose documentation confirms her as Cuba’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary representative, thus giving continuity to the bilateral diplomatic relations established in April 1909.
Since then, official ties have only been interrupted in 1973, as a result of the coup d’état against the constitutional government of President Salvador Allende, and reestablished in 1995.
At the meeting, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, “the parties stressed the historic nature of bilateral relations and the willingness to work to expand and strengthen ties in areas of common interest”.
The head of State was accompanied by Chilean Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola, while the Cuban diplomat was assisted by the first secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Santiago, Raul Mojena.
