To this end, president Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Kim to the position of special representative for peace and security matters today, South Korean media explained.
Prior to becoming diplomatic representative to the United Kingdom, Kim was Vice Foreign Minister, the sources said.
Yoon Suk-yeol also named Park Min-shik, a former deputy of the ruling People´s Power Party as minister for veterans´ care and Yoon Tae-sik, a senior Finance Ministry official to head the Customs Bureau.
Among the 20 appointments made effective Friday, the president included former prosecutor Lee Noh-kong as vice minister of justice; and Cho Yong-man, current secretary general of the Olympic and Sports Committee, as vice minister of culture, sports and tourism.
In South Korea, all ministers are subject to such a procedure, but only the appointment of the Prime Minister requires parliamentary approval.
