Pecci, who specialized in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, was shot dead last Tuesday on a beach on Baru Island, near the Colombian city of Cartagena, where he was spending his honeymoon with journalist Claudia Aguilera, who recently announced her pregnancy.
The director of the Colombian National Police, Jorge Luis Vargas, assured that he has information which is being collected, and which is of a reserved nature, to identify those responsible for this unfortunate event.
The 45-year-old Paraguayan prosecutor, specialized against organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and financing of terrorism, worked on high profile regional cases.
According to his widow, two men arrived in a boat to a private beach of a hotel on Baru Island where they were staying and shot at the prosecutor.
“We condemn in the strongest terms this tragic event and redouble our commitment to fight organized crime. Our sincere condolences to their families,” Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez said.
The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office stated that the coordinated work of that institution with the police made it possible to obtain the image of one of the alleged perpetrators of the homicide of the prosecutor Pecci.
