Ma’s statements came at his first press conference since his arrival in Havana in July 2021, and at a time when Cuba has reported fewer Covid-19 cases.
The diplomat said that precisely the fight against the pandemic proved to be useful ground for bilateral cooperation and the role played by Beijing at the international level, with the donation of 2.2 billion doses of vaccines to dozens of countries.
Ma spoke about President Xi Jinping’s initiatives in the face of what he described as a turbulent and changing world.
He said that Havana shares his country’s vision for world cooperation and security based on dialogue, respect for sovereignty, against hegemonism and unilateralism, and compliance with the United Nations Charter.
They also share the adoption of and respect for arms control and disarmament treaties.
He stressed that there is a high level of political trust between China and Cuba, with special and friendly relations.
