Cuba reports 62 new Covid-19 cases and no deaths

Havana, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) on Wednesday reported 62 new Covid-19 cases and no deaths from complications from this pandemic.

Therefore, the total number of cases with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the disease, has risen to 1,104,769 since March 2020, and the death toll has remains at 8,529 in more than two years.

Cuba has a lethality rate of 0.77 percent compared to 1.20 percent in the world, and 1.76 percent in the Americas, the MINSAP explained.

On Tuesday, 70 patients were discharged and the number of recoveries rose to 1,095,785; that is, 99.2 percent of all cases in Cuba.

On Tuesday, 1,844 people were hospitalized, 1,414 of whom are suspected cases, 34 are under epidemiological surveillance, and 396 are confirmed active cases.

Some 390 of them have a stable clinical evolution; however, one is in a critical state and five are seriously ill.

Cuba is implementing a broad vaccination strategy, through which 36,375,877 of homegrown Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala vaccines had been administered up to May 16.
