Neto and Marti’s legacy honored (+Photos)

Luanda, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Poems recited by children and adolescents, on Thursday evoked the legacy of Antonio Agostinho Neto and Jose Marti, as a synthesis of the brotherhood between Angola and Cuba, during an act in which both heroes were honored.

In Luanda’s elementary school, named after Jose Marti (January 28, 1853-May 19, 1895), it is a beautiful tradition to commemorate the birth and fall in combat of the Cuban National Hero, the school’s director, Elsa Maria Prado, said.

Students and teachers met with the National Association of Former Students who Graduated in Cuba (the so-called Caimaneros) and the Organization of Angolan Pioneers (OPA), along with diplomats and collaborators from the island.

For the OPA, Agostinho Neto (September 17, 1922-September 10, 1979) has been a reason for the civic and patriotic inspiration, the work of the revolutionary leader, statesman and founding father of our nation, the institution’s president Antonio Rosa told Prensa Latina. On behalf of the Caimaneros, the Association’s Vice-President Jose Alvaro told the children that this elementary school is a beloved place for many professionals trained in Cuba, as for years, it welcomed scholarship holders from different provinces before leaving for the Caribbean nation to study.
