On Twitter, the Minister described these relations as “two decades of fruitful friendship, solidarity and cooperation between our countries.”

He also pointed out that “there is potential to further strengthen the historic ties that unite us and expand bilateral collaboration”.

The Democratic Republic of East Timor (official name) occupies the eastern part of the island of Timor, in Southeast Asia, was a Portuguese colony until 1975 and later occupied by Indonesia until achieving its independence on May 20, 2002. It is considered one of the poorest countries on the planet.

Cuba has been collaborating with Timor Leste since 2004, mainly in the field of health with the support provided by a brigade of doctors, and has also contributed to the training of specialists in that sector.
