Beirut, May 20 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's Hezbollah, or Party of God, denied US and opposition propaganda about the loss of popular support as a reflection of the commitment to resistance after the parliamentary elections were held.

The Hezbollah-Amal Movement alliance secured around 580,000 votes among almost two million participants in the May 15 elections, to sweep all Shiite seats in the new legislative body, Al-Manar website reported.

With 367,827 ballots in favor, the candidates of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance were ahead of the candidates of the Al-Kataeb party, the Lebanese Forces, the Progressive Socialist Party and civil society, who obtained 345,862 votes.

According to the list of winners, Hezbollah won 16 seats, included three allied legislators, while the Amal Movement won 15 seats.

On Sunday, May 15, 41 percent of the nearly four million Lebanese eligible to vote exercised their constitutional right, eight points below voters in 2018.

The current Parliament will cease its mandate this Saturday, May 21, and the 128 new legislators will elect the head of the legislative body and the government will be set up.
