At a meeting with the military high command the Army general detailed that in the last eight years the intensity of U.S. strategic bomber flights in Europe has increased from three to 45 per year.

“U.S. guided missile ships have become systematic in their visits to the Baltic Sea. This year, they have carried out missions near the Kaliningrad region six times, entering areas suspected of launching cruise missiles,” the head of the military ministry specified.

Shoigu further emphasized that since 2016, the Eurasian nation’s target control system has discovered 24 such activities.

“At the same time, the United States and NATO are intensifying operational and combat training near our borders. A series of exercises, Defender of Europe, is currently underway with the participation of up to 40,000 military personnel from 30 countries of the bloc,” he confirmed.

According to the minister, the main peculiarity of the maneuvers is the transfer of an entire division of the US Pentagon to the European continent and also the deployment of a group of troops in three strategic directions: the Arctic, the West and the Southwest.

Shoigu reminded those present that the new incursion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is currently in the process of accepting the joint of Russia’s closest neighbors, Finland and Sweden, to the bloc.

In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly warned that the accession of these Nordic countries to NATO would have consequences both for their bilateral relations with Russia and for the European security architecture as a whole.
