He added that another goal is to plan the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero backed the president’s tweet by adding that Meteoro 2022 will increase protection and reduce risks in the face of possible natural, technological and health phenomena.

Meteoro 2022 will be held on May 21-22 and will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Cuba’s Civil Defense system which is currently prioritizing prevention through the development of scientific research and the strengthening of the early alert system.

Another action is the assessment of the plans to deal with drought and associated wildfires, and working experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cuba is preparing itself to face an active hurricane season during which some 17 such natural phenomena might occur, and nine of which might become hurricanes.
