Cuban National Ballet to perform pieces of Ben Stevenson

Havana, May 23 ( Prensa Latina) British choreographer Ben Stevenson will work with Ballet Nacional de Cuba (National Ballet of Cuba) in the coming preparation of a program of his pieces, this company reports on Monday.

Stevenson, an Officer of the Order of the British Empire and a prominent dance figure for the past few decades, will lead a working team in charge of an agenda of performances that will celebrate the 120 years of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Cuba.

Moreover, the season of performances slated from June 10 to 19 at Teatro Nacional, will celebrate the Platinum Jubillee of her Majesty Elizabeth II (70 years of her reign).

According to the report of this company run by prima ballerina Viengsay Valdes, Stevenson’s repertoire will include his renowned version of the Three Preludes and Esmeralda pas de deux.

They will also perform Requiem, inspired by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, in which the Cuban company will share the stage with soloists and the choir of the National Lyric Theater, according to the statement.

The team of this British choreographer, current director of the Texas Ballet Theater, will be made up of Associate Director of the school attached to that company, Kathryn Warakomsky-Li, and Assistant Artistic Director Li Anlin.

Foreign dancers such as Valentin Batista, David Schrenk and Henry Winn will dance as guest artists of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, a cultural heritage institution of Cuba.
