Haiti requires a large economic growth after the recession

Haití, crecimiento, económico, recesión
Port-au-Prince, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Finance expert Riphard Sérent said that Haiti needs an economic growth of at least 6 percent following three years of recession.

According to the expert, the 0.3% rate forecasted by authorities will not make a difference on the economy or slow down the depreciation of the national currency against the US dollar, having lost nearly 50 percent of its value in the last three years.

He also considered that the prognosis of external revenues of 6% to be low, as the fiscal pressure is at 20% on the regional level, according to the Vant Bef Info platform.

The government approved a new budget for the ongoing fiscal year, aspiring to a modest recovery of the economy, despite the decline in the last few years, as recognized by the Minister of Finance, Patrick Boisvert.

According to the minister, important decisions will also be made that will allow for a recovery, as well as an executable level of public investment, unlike previous years.

The Finance Law hopes to deal with social and security problems, as well as allow for a reconstruction of the south of the country, devastated by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake, as well as intending to curb smuggling, which causes losses of between 400 and 600 million dollars each year only in customs.

However, Sérent considers that the Government adopted a correction budget, which is far from contributing to the living conditions of the population.
