Moscow, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Sappers from the Russian Black Sea Fleet and engineering troops completed the demining of the port of Mariupol, the Ministry of Defense of this country reported today.

According to the military entity, during the demining, 134 structures were inspected, which made it possible to find and deactivate more than 12,000 explosive objects and weapons abandoned by the Ukrainian military.

The implemented measures allowed the hydraulic engineering structures and navigation equipment to be put into operation in the approaches and waters of the port of Mariupol, in the Donetsk region, the statement said.

In this way, the navigation channels and the interior water areas of the dock were cleaned of sunken ships and other obstacles to navigation.

The Russian Defense portfolio pointed out that in total more than 1.5 million square meters of water surface, 18 berths and 32 ships were reviewed.

In addition, a Ukrainian border patrol boat sunk by members of the ultra-nationalist Azov battalion and two floating cranes were removed from the port.

Also, demining units removed explosive devices from the coast of the Sea of ​​Azov, adjacent to Mariupol.
