Food Fair, a space for new economic actors

Havana, May 25 (Prensa Latina) The promotion of services and products by the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which are gaining strength in the country, on Wednesday marked the second day of the 3th Cuba 2022 International Food Fair.

Along with those non-state forms of management, self-employed workers involved in the food industry are joining in a space conducive to encouraging concrete results in the food production, in alliance with state and private capital companies.

An example of this is the Duque family chocolate factory, a MSME dedicated to the production of chocolates.

Its vice-president Yadira Ducas told Prensa Latina that since 2020, the factory has been making its products with chocolate paste supplied by Stella S.A., a trading company of the Coralsa Corporation, belonging to the Ministry of Food Industry.

The entity benefits from others with the MSMEs Deshidratados Habana and Mani de Panfilo (Panfilo Peanuts), a way of purchasing raw materials and replacing imports in the manufacture of more than 35 assortments for the domestic market at very reasonable prices, which have remained unchanged since it began.

The idea, Ducas said, is to sell in Cuban pesos even when production costs are high, so that a working mother can buy a chocolate for her child with her salary.

The Duque family chocolate factory received a gold medal for superior quality at Havana’s First Local Development Fair, held from March 28 to April 3 as an initiative of the Cuban capital.

The Cuba 2022 International Food Fair is held at Pabexpo fairground until Thursday, May 26.

During its first day, it carried out an intense program in which among other actions, new products were launched and business offers were presented.
