Buenos Aires, May 26 (Prensa Latina) Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on Thursday condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, and highlighted the Caribbean island's resistance against aggressions.

In his speech at the 3rd Meeting of Ministers of Education of Latin America and the Caribbean at Palacio San Martin, in Buenos Aires, the president called on the international community to denounce and act against the US attacks on Cuba.

In our continent there is a country that has been blocked for six decades and survives as it can. How much longer will go by without us saying or doing something?” the head of State wondered.

On the other hand, he criticized that the North explodes bombs and disputes power while the South dies of misery, hunger and diseases.

Fernandez highlighted the importance of the event that brings together leaders from the entire region in this capital and advocated for the defense of education as a public service guaranteed by the State.

In addition, he noted the need for governments to guarantee access to education for all their citizens.

Under the slogan The right to education in context: recover and transform, the meeting will close on Friday with the presence of officials, ministers, international organizations and members of civil society.

The Cuban delegation is headed by Deputy Minister of Higher Education Alicia Alonso, who has developed a broad agenda in Argentina beyond the event.

One of the objectives of the event is to analyze the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and joint actions to address inequalities and violations of the rights of the most vulnerable people.

Coordinated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Government of Argentina, the meeting is debating on cooperation, the revitalization of spaces for political and technical dialogue, and regional strategies to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
