When giving the check to Cuban authorities, Chinese Ambassador Ma Hui said that this aid is an example of friendship between both peoples and governments in their common effort to build socialism.

He stressed that bilateral ties have been consolidating with time and in the permanent exercise of solidarity, and ratified his country’s willingness to continue strengthening them.

Ma also expressed his admiration for the rescue search of the victims of the explosion at the hotel, due to a gas leak on May 6, as a result of which 46 people were killed and about 100 were injured.

The intervention of Cuba’s top leaders in the face of this catastrophe was an example of leadership and dedication to their people, he pointed out.

For her part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Deborah Rivas thanked this gesture, and considered it an important and timely aid.

She recalled that since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, China has sent over 100 tons of aid to Cuba.

This donation shows solidarity between the Chinese government and people and Cuba for decades and will contribute to the efforts against Covid-19, and the reparation of damage to the Saratoga Hotel and the adjacent buildings, she said.
