In a meeting with the Agrarian Attorney, Luis Hernandez Palacios and the Commissioner for talks with Indigenous Peoples of the Ministry of the Interior, Josefina Bravo Rangel, a rapprochement was reached with the Wixarikas (ethnic group) to resolve their demands regarding the stolen lands.
Hernandez Palacios announced that he will personally attend to the case as instructed by President Lopez Obrador, and will initiate negotiations with the ranchers.
The official proposal is to offer compensation so that, “in a friendly manner”, the ranchers agree to the restitution of the 11,000 hectares, explained Carlos Gonzalez, the community’s lawyer.
We are building some solution routes, legal and operative proposals to advance in the return of the lands, said the lawyer.
The agrarian attorney is going to attend to the problem by instruction of the president, giving priority to conciliation and agreement with the concessionaires of the lands that the community is demanding restitution, and they tell us that there is a bag of sufficient resources to compensate the concessionaires so that they accept the restitution, added Gonzalez.
However, they did not sign any agreement because they are waiting for a meeting with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador this Monday.
