Cuba appreciates donation of medical supplies from Pakistan (+Photos)

Havana, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today thanked a donation of medical supplies from Pakistan, considered by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex) Deborah Rivas, as a great gesture of friendship.

The cargo, intended to support the plan to confront Covid-19 in the country, consists of masks, protective and surgical gowns, 40 pulmonary ventilators, among other means, equivalent to more than 65 thousand euros.

It is a great pleasure to deliver this donation to the Cuban people in their fight against the pandemic, said Shabbir Ahmad, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Havana, who gratefully recalled the “generous help” provided by the island during the earthquake that occurred in 2005.

The diplomat signified the work of the Henry Reeve medical brigade at the time, which offered treatment to 80,000 patients and carried out 7,000 operations in field hospitals and in two emergency camps established in some of the most difficult-to-reach areas affected by the earthquake. .

Shabbir Ahmad thanked the National Disaster Management Authority of his country, Mincex, MediCuba and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean nation, institutions that cooperated to make the delivery possible.

“This donation is a small gesture of goodwill towards the friendly people of Cuba,” the diplomat emphasized, adding that both countries enjoy excellent friendly relations that will surely continue to strengthen in the future.

The deputy minister insisted on the high appreciation and gratitude of Cubans towards shows of solidarity like this, and pointed out that in the current context, aggravated by the unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, they acquire a greater connotation.

Cuba recognizes Pakistan’s historic position of condemning the criminal US siege, said Rivas, who recalled the help provided by the Asian nation after the passage of hurricanes through the island.

“We have received the eternal gratitude of the Pakistani people for the unconditional help that Cuban doctors, nurses and health technicians offered to the thousands of victims after the earthquake,” he said, adding that this sowed the seed for a broader collaboration in the educational, sports and cultural spheres.

He highlighted the training in the largest of the Antilles of almost a thousand young Pakistanis in medical universities, who contribute to the health and well-being of millions of their compatriots.

Likewise, she ratified the intention to continue strengthening cooperation and bilateral trade in sectors of mutual interest.
