“One of the most important missions that the FANB has had is to liberate all border areas with Colombia from the Tancol (Colombian armed drug-trafficking terrorists). We are a people of peace, of talks”, said Maduro on his Twitter account.
The Venezuelan president pointed out that terrorism and violence will not take over Venezuela. “The FANB and the people with firm hand against the mafias,” the head of State tweeted.
Since early this year, rapid action units from the Venezuelan Armed Forces have intensified their operations in the western border of the country, with emphasis on the states of Apure and Zulia, in order to neutralize the so-called Tancol groups.
Defensive actions include the destruction of airstrips used for drug trafficking and the dismantling of enclaves used by these paramilitary groups as operational bases along the border with Colombia.
Likewise, combat sapper units are making progress in the deactivation of anti-personnel mines and other explosive devices planted by these criminal groups on roads and paths to cover their infiltration routes from the neighboring country.
In this regard, the FANB Strategic Operational Commander Domingo Hernandez Larez noted on Thursday that no foreign military structures, fuel depots, laboratories, training centers, arms depots or any other war structure or any other structure associated to drug trafficking may exist on Venezuelan territory.
