Gretel Cazón, Cuban cultural roots from the contemporary

Cuba, gretel Cazón, música, Francia
Paris, Jun 4 (Prensa Latina) As a proud heir to the rich Cuban musical and artistic tradition, singer Gretel Cazón defined herself today in this capital, who offered her contribution to the Latin America and Caribbean Week in France.

In the 21st century, but being the same, heir to that tradition to which I give continuity with much love and humility, the young artist, who combines her musical and scenic training in each presentation, told Prensa Latina.

Expanding on that statement, she cited names such as Esther Borja, María de los Ángeles Santana, Rita Montaner and Rosita Fornés, glories of the culture of the Antillean nation who nurture a tradition that she described as great and powerful.

Cazón delighted the day before with her presentation at the Cuban embassy in France to the guests at an evening, in which she shared her recital Songs of Hope with the exhibition of the renowned painter, engraver and collector Lorenzo Padilla.

Eternal themes such as Perla Marina, by Sindo Garay, Una Rosa de Francia, by Rodrigo Prats, La Gloria tú, by José Antonio Méndez, and Rabo de Nube, by Silvio Rodríguez, along with classics from other Latin American countries, drew applause thanks to the combination of his voice and histrionic skills.

With regard to the singing-acting duality, in which she began to venture into musical theater at a young age, the artist considered it “her hallmark, her way of seeing songs from the stage and the scene from music.”

Also known on the island for roles in soap operas, Cazón expressed her willingness to be part of new projects on the small screen, as long as they are useful, contribute to her as an artist, have something to say and have the time to undertake them.

In terms of music, her first album Rumba Azul was nominated for the Song and Sound Design awards at Cubadisco 2022.

It is a proposal of classics by Cuban authors, from Armando Oréfiche and Ernesto Lecuona to Rodrigo Prats and Eduardo Sánchez de Fuentes, with a contemporary vision of young people who love our music, respect the beautiful melodies and their essence and are proud of a tradition. so big, he pointed out.

As for upcoming projects, he announced “sing, sing and sing” and a new album that would be released this year, under a format similar to the recital that friends from Cuba enjoyed in France last night, within the framework of Latin America and the Caribbean Week .

The question about the Covid-19 pandemic and its severe impact on culture could not be missing from the dialogue with Prensa Latina.

The pandemic was a difficult moment for everyone, which I personally took advantage of to establish priorities, for example, the Rumba Azul album emerged in that context, when I told myself that I should sing the songs that I always wanted to do, she stressed.

My goal, she added, is to make art that pleases me and helps materialize my dreams, that is more important than filling vacancies.
