Cuba maintains downward trend in Covid-19 cases

Havana, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday maintains the downward trend in Covid-19 contagions, an achievement reached thanks to the established hygienic-sanitary measures and the population's vaccination level achieved with the homegrown vaccines.

Such results are evidenced by the report issued by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), which reported 18 new Covid-19 cases in the last hours.

Only 137 patients are in hospitals, 136 of them are clinically stable and one is seriously ill in an intensive care unit.

So far, Cuba has accumulated 1,105,461 contagions since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in March 2020, and the number of recovered patients rose to 1,096,736.

A total of 8,529 patients died due to complications related the disease and Cuba’s lethality rate is 0.77 percent, a figure much lower than 1.18 recorded globally and 1.73 percent in the Americas region.

In this context, the MINSAP reported that so far, 7,287,773 people have been administered the Covid-19 booster dose, which shows the high vaccination level of the Cuban population.

The health entity pointed out that 9,966,280, a 90 percent of the population, have already received the complete vaccination scheme.

To date, 10,672,104 Cubans have received one dose from the homegrown vaccines, 9,411,243 have already been administered the second dose, while the third jab was given to 9,112,459.

So far, 37,394,674 doses of the homegrown Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala (CIGB-66) vaccines have been administrated. Although the country has maintained a downward trend of Covid-19 contagions, the hygienic-sanitary measures such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and a permanent call not to trust the so-called silent enemy are still in force.

Wearing facemask is not mandatory, but it should be worn in meetings in closed spaces, public transportation and crowds. Those who wish to wear it all the time may do so.
