The provincial government of Pinar del Río said that the deceased, Yusiniel Cabeza, 24, was found north of the municipality of Minas de Matahambre, in the western province of Pinar del Río.
A hundred people participated in the search and tracing actions “including members of the Rescue Brigade of the Ministry of the Interior, divers, local fishermen, residents and members of the Zone and Municipal Defense Councils,” the Cubadebate website reported.
The heavy rains of the past few days had a significant impact on the western and central regions of the island, where three more deaths were reported, two in the capital, due to a landslide and an accident, and another one in Pinar del Río, victim of the flooded rivers.
Regarding material damage, heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in agriculture, electrical infrastructure and housing.
Havana authorities reported that the weather conditions brought about 111 landslides, two of them were total; 4,522 people had to be evacuated, and 3,970 took shelter in the homes of relatives and friends, due to the flooding of 23 areas.
