Cuba’s National School of Art celebrates 60th anniversary

Cuba, ENA, aniversario
Havana, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The National School of Art (ENA), flagship center of artistic education in Cuba, celebrates today the 60th anniversary of its foundation with a recognized training work inside and outside the country.

The project, created by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, reaches six decades with satisfactory results and as an eloquent example of Cuban cultural policy, deputy director of the National Center for Art Schools (Cneart), Elizabeth Castro told the press.

The institution has graduated over 35,000 students and is a reference for 37 other educational centers with the same purpose distributed throughout the country, she pointed out.

Over the years, the ENA became an academy for artists par excellence, with notable results in the training of comprehensive professionals, according to generations and historical contexts, she recalled.

“(…) that is the fundamental mission of the art school that Fidel dreamed of and that we continue today with that integral artist, committed to a deeply humanistic society (…)”, said the deputy director of Cneart.

In addition, she highlighted in the center’s graduates the ability to develop an art that allows national culture to endure by enriching it with each new work and project.

Another of the strengths of the artistic education system in Cuba is its faculty of teachers, which is around four thousand pedagogues, in charge of educating over eight thousand 700 students in the different subjects.

She also highlighted the projection of the ENA and the other educational centers towards society, especially within the communities as a result of the training process of this integral artist who combines creation with pedagogy.

In this sense, Castro meant the more than two thousand community culture projects that students and teachers develop throughout the country.

With regard to the 60th anniversary of the ENA, an intense program of activities will take place during the rest of the year, including concerts, exhibitions, panels, workshops, and the First International Symposium of graduates from art schools scheduled for the month of november.

One of the most significant moments of the celebration will take place today in the Sala Covarrubias of the National Theater, with a gala in which students, teachers, graduates, and artists whose work contributes to guide the cultural evolution of the Revolution in the different manifestations will participate.
