On Twitter, the Cuban foreign minister added that the fiasco of this meeting is a reflection of the moral disrepute by Washington’s foreign policy. Our America has changed and only accepts an equal and mutual respect relation, with no interference or exclusion, Bruno Rodríguez tweeted.
Based in Los Angeles, California, the Summit is slated for June 6-10, with a program that includes debates with civil society representatives and regional political leaders, although the absence of a large number of delegates limits the scope of an event that has given rise to controversy.
The US government, taking advantage of its status as host country, early excluded a number of countries from the Summit, sparking off a wide debate and a genuine and spontaneous solidarity in the face of this discriminatory action.
As reflected in a statement by the Cuban government on Monday, the exclusions from the 9th Summit confirm that Washington makes use of such multilateral mechanisms as an instrument of its hegemony in the Americas, but it cannot go on treating the Latin American peoples as it did in the past 20th century.
