The Kazakh Foreign Ministry official assured that all parties involved in the process confirmed their attendance at the meeting. “Delegations of the guarantor states (Russia, Turkey and Iran), as well as the Syrian government and the Syrian armed opposition will participate,” he expanded.
Leading the Moscow delegation will be the special representative of the Russian president for Syria, Alexander Lavréntiev; Ankara’s delegation will be led by the director general of the Multilateral department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Selcuk Unal; and Tehran’s delegation will be led by the senior advisor to its foreign minister, Ali Asghar Khaji.
He indicated that a UN representation headed by Robert Dann, head of Political Affairs of the Office of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria, will also participate in the talks.
According to Smadiyarov, representatives of Jordan, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross will also be present as observers.
The agenda of the meeting calls for the delegations of the guarantor countries to hold bilateral and trilateral consultations at the expert level tomorrow and a plenary session with all parties on June 16.
