The channel, which is over 40 km long, was built in Hamgyong province. Its source is the Kumya River and will irrigate rice paddies and drying fields of some 4,000 hectares without using millions of kilowatts of electricity that were consummed annually to keep pumping water in this area.

The solution of the irrigation problem in the Kumya district is key to increase agricultural production in South Hamgyong Province.

Secretary General of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Kim Jong Un, presented an execution program aimed at reinforcing and completing the country’s irrigation system to reach the goal of rural prosperity.
