According to a revised report by the Costa Rica’s Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), this earthquake occurred at 09:36, local time, at a depth of 60 km and a kilometer from the southern-southwestern part of Santa Eulalia de Atenas, in the neighboring province of Alajuela.

The OVSICORI indicates that the earthquake originated in the Coco Interplate. Over 60 percent of nearly 5.2 million inhabitants of this Central American nation live in the Greater Metropolitan Area.

No deaths or material damage have been reported. This phenomenon is very common in Costa Rica for being located on tectonic and local faults.
