He replied a question in this regard at his daily morning press briefing at the National Palace by saying that, in order to fight global inflation, which has grown due to the Ukraine War and could have been prevented, we must achieve self-sufficency in the important energy and food sectors.
He said that economic problems or the inflationary crisis cannot be addressed if we have our own supply sources. The key is to produce what we consume, he insisted.
Who started the Ukraine War, he said, did not take into account its effects on the global economy or human beings as it brings about shortages and large displacements of people.
They should have forseen that in a globalized world and economy what happens in Ukraine or Russia affects Europe and the world and especially the weakest economies, he added.
He recalled that, contrary to neoliberals, Mexico thinks that we must produce what we consume and do away with the economicist criterion that in a globalized world we can buy all we need abroad and at better prices and there is no need to produce it in the country, without taking into account other factors, such as social ones and employment.
Because this is our philosophy, we decided to seek energy and food self-sufficency and were thus criticized.
