Cuba reports increase in foreign tourist arrivals

aeropuerto-jose-marti
Havana, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) Recent statistics on tourism in Cuba show that the path taken by authorities marks an upward trend to achieve the recovery of the leisure sector in the country.

This opinion, shared by experts from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), points out that Cuba might receive 2.5 million foreign travelers in this year.

The latest report fro Cuba’s National Statistics and Information Office(ONEI) showed an increase in foreign tourist arrivals in May, an evidence of the recovery of this economic sector.

The ONEI stated in a communiqué that up to May, Cuba had received 811,479 travelers, accounting for 591.7 percent compared to the same period in 2021 and equivalent to 674,330 more travelers.

During the January-May period, Canada was the leading tourist-sending market, followed by the Cuban community abroad, the Russian Federation, the United States, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Poland, among others.

Cuba was reopened to tourism on November 15, after a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a period during which authorities focused on hotel investments, repairs and increasing the value of the products they offer.

Cuba aims to finish this year with 2.5 million foreign holidaymakers (it received more than four million a year before the health crisis) and it seems to be moving at a good pace.
