The earthquakes, also felt in Niigata and Toyama, occurred at 10:31 and 14:50 local time, respectively, without risk of tsunami.

According to the agency, the epicenter of the first one was recorded at a depth of 14 kilometers at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, while the second one was four units closer to the surface.

So far there are no reports of significant human or material damage, nor anomalies in the nuclear plants located in the region, nor interruptions of the Shinkansen bullet train service, the government assured.

The day before, another powerful earthquake hit the Japanese demarcation and left at least five people injured, according to the national press.

According to the director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Observation Division of the JMA, Noriko Kamaya, the recent earthquakes are part of a series of events of this type beginning in late 2020.

The expert also warned at a press conference about possible repetitions during the course of the week.

Although the tremors passed without causing major damage, Japanese authorities warned that the continuous shaking may have loosened the ground, raising the risk of landslides and house collapses.
