Russia to continue to strengthen Armed Forces, Putin assured

Moscow, Jun 21 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday assured the country will further strengthen its Armed Forces, taking into account potential threats and risks, at a meeting with graduates of higher military education institutions.

The president said that the nation will continue to develop its means of defense and improve its combat force based on the lessons learned from modern armed conflicts, the official government website indicated.

Putin considered a priority the need to equip Russian troops with new weapons systems that will determine the combat capacity of the Army and Navy in the coming years and decades.

He said they have to implement ever-wider use of robotics, the latest control and reconnaissance tools, unmanned aerial vehicles, actively develop weapons systems based on new physical principles.

In this sense, he mentioned the development of laser and electromagnetic weapons, among others, and warned about the importance of perfecting the intensive training of units and troops, in interaction with allies from other countries.

The president drew attention to the first Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system, which, as reported, will be put into combat service at the end of 2022.

In addition to the new weapons already tested on the battlefield, the Army began to receive the S-500 anti-aircraft defense systems and by the end of this year the first Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system will be put into combat service.
