Haitian opposition criticizes government delays to overcome crisis

Port-au-Prince, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Signatories of the Montana Agreement, which brings together hundreds of socio-political platforms in Haiti, criticized the delays and alleged lack of will of the Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, to solve the crisis, it was announced .

Arnel Rémy, who signed the consensus of the civil society to seek a solution to the situation in the country, denounced that Henry has not expressed his opinion on the proposals of the Monitoring Office of the Montana Agreement, despite the fact that a month has passed, according to the newspaper Le National.

According to the lawyer, they were still unable to establish a frank dialogue, nor agreements that include all actors of the society, as Henry promised when he assumed power in July 2021 after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

“In our dialogues with Ariel Henry, we proposed to him to suspend the appointment of judges of the Court of Cassation, we also asked him to put an end to the organization of the elections that he had brought in his plan of actions,” Rémy assured.

These two forces should have met at the end of May, after several meetings to agree on negotiation strategies, but this has not yet happened, despite the fact that the country is sinking more and more into violence due to the actions of armed gangs, and the main institutions such as the Parliament or the judiciary are in crisis.
