According to the head of the European Parliament, the EU granted Ukraine the status of candidate for accession as a symbol of hope to keep the spirit of Ukrainians, but for a real accession there are still many steps to be taken.

The decision to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova will be taken at the bloc’s summit, after which it will have to be formally certified by the European Parliament.

Earlier, European Council President Charles Michel expressed confidence that the EU summit would grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.
