Poland insists on permanently hosting more NATO troops

Warsaw, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Poland insisted on proposals to host forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), despite Russia's denunciations of the threat to its national security of this practice.

The Polish government is preparing to discuss at the NATO summit in Madrid, scheduled for the 27th and 28th of this month, an initiative aimed at locating another NATO combat brigade in the country, the Polska Times reported.

For Polish Defense Minister Mariush Blashak, the meeting at the highest level in the Spanish capital would strengthen the eastern flank of the Atlantic alliance, whose countries border Russia, which is radically opposed to the eastern expansion of the bloc.

Blashak, whose country has recently become one of the main platforms for talking about an alleged Russian threat to Europe, said that Poland was a pioneer in the installation of forces of the North Atlantic pact on its territory.

Russia recalled at the time that the presence of troops and combat assets on the eastern flank of the Atlantic alliance could only be rotational, although the member States of that grouping are increasingly betting on deploying forces permanently in the region.
