For now, the planned format is face-to-face, we hope that the Covid-19 pandemic will allow us to actually attend such a crucial event, Ushakov said; he also stressed the importance of the invitation, despite pressures exerted on the Indonesian government.

Local media echoed the insistent calls of Western powers such as the United States to prohibit the presence of the Russian statesman at the aforementioned summit, to be held next November 15-16 on Indonesia.

The issue of the Russian president’s attendance to the G-20 summit will also be discussed during the visit of the Indonesian head of state, Joko Widodo, to this capital next Thursday, the official said.

Amid attempts to isolate Russia, which last week held the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, with the participation of businessmen from more than 100 countries, several Western powers advocated limiting Putin’s presence at the G-20.
