Yesterday, the social and indigenous leader was admitted to the Los Lapachos clinic in the northern city of San Salvador de Jujuy due to a deep vein thrombosis and, although she is stable, her situation is complex and further tests are necessary.
After presenting pain in her left leg, at 16:00, local time, Sala was transferred to the Coronary Therapy unit to receive treatment, according to a statement from her lawyers.
Since then, she has been in intensive care. Her condition is not free of complications and the procedure to be followed is being analyzed, which could consist of surgery or anticoagulation while awaiting her evolution, it adds.
It also specifies that, due to the existing danger, the activist must continue to be hospitalized without making any movement and, “in the best of cases, the resolution of her situation will take three to five months and she will have to be treated for about a year”.
The 58-year-old leader was arrested in 2016 for allegedly inciting violence when she led a protest in Jujuy against changes imposed by Governor Gerardo Morales in the cooperative system and program.
