The president said at his morning briefing that 50 people have died so far: 22 from Mexico, seven from Guatemala, two from Honduras and 19 whose nationality has not been identified yet.

Lopez Obrador, when sending his condolences to the victims’ families, stressed that this is a tremendous misfortune.

The president reported that personnel from the Mexican consulate in Texas (southern United States) are in the area to support the investigation.

He said that they will be alert to support the families of the victims, transfer the bodies and carry out the investigation.

Lopez Obrador was sorry about events like this due to the poverty and dispear of Central American and Mexican brothers because of human trafficking and lack of controls on the border of Mexico with the United States and inside that nation.

On Monday night, US authorities announced the discovery of 46 dead bodies in an abandoned truck and said that another 16 people were hospitalized, 12 adults and four children.
