Italy suffers extreme temperatures with 22 cities on red alert

Rome, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Experts warned that in the coming hours temperatures in southern Italy could reach 48 degrees Celsius, while in 22 cities including this capital will be declared red alert for the heat wave.

The African anticyclone Charon, largely responsible for the heat wave, will continue to punish this European nation for at least another ten days, according to reports by meteorologists published on the specialized site 3BMeteo and reported by the television station Sky TG24.

Today, 19 cities of the country dawned in red alert, but the Ministry of Health has already announced that in the coming hours the number will reach 22, including Rome.

The red level means that exceptional meteorological phenomena with the potential to cause emergencies or disasters are expected, while the orange level means that they are considered dangerous and yellow means the possibility of damage.

The temperatures expected in Sicily could surpass the European record of 48,8 degrees Celsius set on that island on August 11, 2021, recorded in Floridia, province of Syracuse, which after 44 years beat the previous one reported in Athens, Greece, specialists indicate.
