Dutch farmers protest against government measures

países Bajos, campesinos, protesta
Amsterdam, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Several Dutch unions against government measures to cut emissions of polluting elements, which may affect sectors such as agriculture and cattle raising.

The regulations include a 50 percent reduction in the generation of harmful elements into the atmosphere by 2030, such as nitrogen oxide and ammonia, which could harm livestock production, according to industry sources.

The displeasure among the unions is owed to the fact that the executive blames them “unfairly and with little concern for their future”, while Prime Minister Mark Rutte ruled out negotiating with the producers responsible for radical protests.

Workers used trucks and tractors to block supermarket distribution centers, while at the Schiphol Airport in the capital, employees urged travelers to use public transport to reach their terminals for fear of blockades.

As a gesture of solidarity, groups of fishermen also closed several ports in Amsterdam, according to the local press.

The protesters deployed banners and flags before the police, who did not intervene.

The supermarket sector organization called for measures to be taken in the face of possible shortages in products.

“The blockades of distribution centers affect citizens (…) and could cause the population to be unable to make their daily purchases,” the Central Office of Food Commerce said in a statement.
