Russia and Venezuela agree to foster mutually beneficial projects

Moscow, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Russia and Venezuela agreed to promote mutually beneficial projects in the energy, pharmaceutical and transportation fields, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported on Monday.

At a press conference after meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Carlos Faria, Lavrov explained that they agreed to promote mutually beneficial projects in several spheres such as energy, pharmaceutical business, industry, transportation and technical-military cooperation.

The foreign minister also announced that a Russian scientific and cultural center will be opened in Caracas soon and stressed the importance of developing cooperation in high tech areas.

Lavrov said that, in this context, that they have completed the necessary internal procedures for the entry into force of the intergovernmental space cooperation agreement.

In this regard, he noted that this document creates a legal framework for mutually beneficial projects, including the setting up of the land station Glonass in Venezuela.

For his part, Faria said that his country will continue cooperating with Russia in the energy sector and expects to agree on new measures soon that can dodge the effect of western sanctions.

The Venezuelan foreign minister highlighted that cooperation in energy is a topic that has been continuously discussed since the beginning of the rapprochement between Commander Hugo Chavez (1954-2013) and President Vladimir Putin in 2001.
