On the occasion of International Population Day, the PCBS stated in a communique that 3.19 million Palestinians are settled in the West Bank and 2.16 million in the coastal enclave.

Of that total in both territories, 2.72 million are men and 2.63 million are women, the statistical institution explained.

The PCBS noted that the fertility rate during the period between 2017 to 2019 declined to 3.8 births per woman, compared to 4.6 births reported during the period between 1999 and 2003.

It noted that 11 percent of households were headed by women in 2021, while the illiteracy rate was 2.3 percent, although the rate between males and females is high at 1.2 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.

In the case of unemployment, the agency stated that the rate is 26 percent of the economically active population in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with 16 percent in the former and 47 percent in the latter.
