China imports AstraZeneca’s vaccine Evusheld to fight Covid-19

Beijing, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) China began importing Evusheld vaccine, developed by the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to fight Covid-19, and the first batch arrived in the southern Hainan province, local press reported on Friday.

According to China Daily, the shipment cost almost 22 million yuan (3.3 million dollars) and those vaccines will be used in the international medical tourism pilot zone in Boao, Hainan province.

Statements made by a Hainan official, quoted by this media, revealed that 1,700 people will be vaccinated and the Ruijin-Hainan Shanghai Jiao Tong University Hospital will ask for permission to import more vaccines, after observing the evolution of the patients.

Evusheld is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies (tixagevimab and cilgavimab) and is indicated for the passive immunization of patients at higher risk for Covid-19 and severe forms of the disease.

Apart from that injectable drug, China also imported the Covid-19 vaccine and a pill from Pfizer firm.
