On his Twitter account, the head of Cuban diplomacy sent “the most heartfelt condolences” to the people and Government of Japan, as well as to the victim’s family and relatives. Rodriguez assured that Cuba will always remember Shinzo Abe for his contribution to relations with Cuba.
The assassination took place on Friday near Yamato Saidaiji station, in Nara prefecture.
According to NHK news channel, the former prime minister collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital while suffering cardiopulmonary arrest.
The police arrested the assassin at the scene and are investigating the attack, the Japanese media outlet noted.
Shinzo Abe, born on September 21, 1954, was the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party and prime minister of Japan from 2006 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2020.
