President Diaz-Canel thanks UNDP for supporting Cuba

Havana, Jul 8 (Pensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday thanked the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for it support for Cuba in a number of fields.

On his Twitter account, the head of State appreciated “the support that Cuba has received from the UNDP,” something he extended on Thursday to UN Deputy Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Luis Felipe Lopez-Calva, when he received him at the Palace of the Revolution.

During the meeting, Diaz-Canel told Lopez-Calva that Cuba will meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

He also referred to other issues in which the UNDP’s involvement and understanding of the priorities of Cuba’s Economic and Social Development Program until 2030 have been decisive.

In this regard, the president pointed out that “the UNDP has cooperated many times in how to provide support and address situations that allow us to move forward.”

Diaz-Canel also made emphasis on “the UNDP’s understanding of the damage by the US blockade,” and mentioned the draft resolution sent to the UN secretary general every year against Washington’s blockade and in favor of Cuba.

He particularly expressed gratitude for all the support given by the UNDP amid the complex scenario of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba.
